After listening to the projective technique story, I definitely agree with most of the result analysis at the end. I filled out all of my answers before listening to the end of the presentation so I feel like I was honest with my responses. I roughly answered the questions as follows:
1. The forest was green, had many trees, and there were lots of animals
2. The path was narrow and there were branches and trees everywhere covering the path
3. The key I found was old and rusted but I decided to keep it and put it in my pocket
4. The cup I found was dirty and broken so I decided to leave it in the forest
5. When I found water, it was a small pond that I walked around to get past it
6. I found a downhill path that was wide and smooth and easy to walk across
7. The field I came to was a corn field where I walked through the middle to get through
8. Lastly, I came to a small stone wall where I climbed over to find a small country village full of people
I agree with the analysis of question two about our journey through life. My response matched what I believe because life is full of narrow opportunities and threats where we have to fight our way through each day. Question three was accurate also because my view on knowledge relates to the key. I believe that we retain our knowledge and experiences in life to help us prosper later. We learn from our past experiences what to do in the future. That’s why I decided to keep the key in my pocket because someday I might find the lock that the key will open. I found the last question interesting in my response with death and how I view the beyond. I hope that when my time comes I will run into a wall where I am able to climb over to the other side and be greeted with my friends and family. This was an interesting personality test because it really proves to be accurate about how I view certain matters in life!
In business research, you can use projective techniques to discover individuals attitudes about information and it can be used for motivation. For example, if Home Depot wanted to conduct exploratory research to see if consumers would be willing to buy their new line of “Reynolds” paint, they could conduct a third-party technique to test the results. Home Depot representatives could conduct an analysis to ask respondents if they thought their husband or wife would be willing to buy this new line of paint and document the results. This would give them a better prospective to see if different family members would be willing to buy the new line of paint. With this information, the marketing department could then advertise and market this product to the consumers!
For business research, a company could also use word association to get valuable information about their products. If McDonalds wanted to create a new menu item for their desert section but wasn’t sure what to call it, they could try word association to see what customers thought. McDonalds could ask respondents what words came to mind when they heard the following: chocolate, brownie, ice cream, etc. Hopefully the feedback would relate relevant information to McDonald about possible words that came to mind. With this, they could try to name the desert something that made customers think about this new desert and make them want to order it.
Another projective technique you could use with research is a thematic apperception test to see qualities associated with different projects and get customer perceptions about the product. For instance, if Nike wanted to conduct a study to see what happens if they changed their check mark logo they could try a TAT test. They could show individuals pictures of the old logo and the new and improved logo and see if the feedback was favorable. If respondents in the experiment had favorable feedback, Nike could consider changing their logo to generate new interest.
I liked this little test because I shows alot of different aspects of how people view certain things and how they obtain to their lives. I didnt think about word association and it relating to this topic and business research.
ReplyDeleteThe relationships between the story and real life are extremely close in my situation. I really liked your example using home depot, I believe it showed a great real life example of how projective techniques might work in the business world.
